Hackney Council Consultation on Estate Cycle Parking

Hackney Council wish to get residents views on providing new secure cycle parking on the   Estate.

Hackney Council have said:

"We know that access to secure cycle parking can be a barrier to cycling which is why the Council is investing £3 million over the next three years to deliver an additional 675 cycle hangars, both on street and on estates. As part of this work we have already installed 3 hangars on Lockner Estate and uptake of these units has been very good.

We have been looking at suitable locations for a further two units on the estate and wanted to get residents feedback on these before we proceed. The locations we are looking at are below. The locations are also marked on the ground with the location reference number also added as part of the spot marking.

We will be installing posters on Friday to start the consultation period, which will run until 3rd January. Residents can give feedback using this link, by emailing consultation.parking@hackney.go.uk or calling 0208 356 5250. Would you be able to circulate this to other TRA members or give any feedback the TRA may have as a whole? I'm more than happy to answer my question or provide any more information.

I know one question previously has been around ring fencing the use of these hangars to solely Lockner estate residents. Estate hangars are ring fenced to just Hackney estates but not to individual estates. As part of the process all residents living within 150m of newly installed hangars will be contacted to access slots. Because of this we find that residents living further away are unlikely to be aware of the new hangars and so they will be  more likely to be allocated to people living locally anyway. We already have a number of residents on the estate registered on the system but if residents want to be directly contacted and be considered immediately for slots in any new hangars I would encourage them to sign up as soon as possible.

Residents can find out more details, register for the hangars scheme and get further details of  the expansion plan at https://hackney.gov.uk/cycle-hangar."

The TRA encourages all residents with an interest, support or concern to respond to the Council's consultation on this.
